About 6 months ago I made a very difficult decision. I sent my daughter to
a boarding facility for troubled teens. She was out of control and I
feared for her life. At the time I new of no one who had chosen to send
thier child to a program, but now I have met so many wonderful parents,
who love thier children so much that they would do anything to help them.
Crying that night, I sat at my computer and searched for the right program
I literally typed " Help Teen!" and got a few schools. After making a few
inquiries I found a program that I was ok with, not happy, as that was a
situation that I struggled to be happy with. I got every thing in order,
and told myself, " Ok, one more big mistake and off she goes" Well, 3 more
things later.... including, stealing our truck (no drivers license)and the
police pulled her over, refusing to come home one night and refusing to
tell me where she was, and sneaking out another night, I escorted her to
the school.
I am happy to say that it is the best decision I have ever made in my
life. My daughter is now working her program, she is learning to be
accountable for her choices, she is learning honesty and integrity. She is
an amazing girl again!
I want parents to know if you are considering this, you are not alone. It
is not a bad thing, but maybe the greatest gift you can give your child in
the world that your teenager is living in. I want to help by making myself
available as much as possible for those of you who are considering this.

I'm glad that this is working for you, and I know that it must have been a
very painful decision.
We go to a church camp every summer. There are two boys from two families
who have also been going for years. I didn't realize that they were
friends outside of camp also. The father of one of them had a spy program
on the son's computer. The two boys were communicating via instant
messenger and setting up times and places to meet to use drugs. The
monitoring parents sent their kid to a camp in Utah, and then to a
boarding school in Utah after that. The mother of the other boy put him
in counseling, and they came to camp last summer.

Congratulations on finally having your daughter back in shape! I am pleased
that these programs (like wilderness treatment program or such) really help
kids a lot, especially those who are troubled. I think these programs help
boost the kids' confidence and give them an outlet for their rage or
disturbance.
Sometimes parents can't directly help their children since the reality is
that, there are children who do not like confiding to their parents. With the
help of these schools, parents can finally communicate to their children
again.
I'd like to hear more stories about children being helped by programs like
this so that when I encounter the same trouble (oh I wish not!) I know best
where to start.
