What did the doctor say about using Mineral oil.
I am very curious because in my dad's condition the doctors never brought it
up but used every single anticonstipant known to "modern" medicine with no
luck.
The mineral oil was a folk cure.

He did mention mineral oil right at the end of our conversation (thank
goodness, because as usual when I got in the ped's office, my mind just went
blank). We decided to try it instead of the Rx stuff ... first we waited
for the effects of the powder to wear off so we could see properly what the
m.o. did.
Then we gave her one mini dose on Saturday in case of blow-outs! There was
modest production on Sunday (coincidence or oil, who knows?) so we have
again waited a few days to be sure that nothing looser would follow. Now we
will try a bigger dose today and work up til we find something that works.
He said we could play with amounts and frequency (one tsp; one tbsp; every
day, every 4th day, whatever works).
Getting it down her is going to be interesting though given how slick it is
...
Saturday it was all in her hair by the time she finished, um, complaining.
Maybe we'll try only doing it right before bathtime (which is only 2x /
week). And regulating the amount was a *huge* problem with the powder, so
we are just holding our breath.
And meantime I have had to put her back in diapers with just a couple of
trips to the potty a day as I can't take the leaks any more.
Anyway, ... thanks for the suggestion ... cross fingers?

Consider fingers crossed!
Poor kid!
No one should have to suffer like that!

My son went to a GI specialist because of severe constipation. He
recommended mineral oil daily and it was quite effective for helping him
pass hard stools (pardon me for being so graphic). It's a great solution to
laxatives because it causes no cramping and passes right through without
absorbing into the bloodstream. The best part is that it is very
inexpensive and available without a prescription.
