Hi Everyone-
Well, I was offered a teaching position in a Special Ed. class a couple weeks
ago. I visited the class on Friday to see if I thought the job was right for me
and I like the class. I'm still not completely sure about it though. I'm
going to talk to the head of the Special Education department about another
position before I make up my mind, but it looks like I will have one of those
two positions for next school year.
We are going to keep the girls at the same preschool for next year then move
them to a school closer to home for 5-K the following year, so I have been
checking out day care centers where they will have to go before and after
preschool, since preschool is just 9:00-12:00. I will visit another one
tomorrow before I make up my mind.
It is really, really hard on me to think of not being with them all the time
like I have been since they were born. I guess in the back of my mind I kept
thinking that I might not get offered a job for next school year and would get
to stay at home with them for one more year, but it didn't turn out that way.
I'm going to miss them so much, but I am lucky to get my summers off though (no
teaching summer school for me). I worry a lot about Jordan adjusting. Madison
is so independent, but Jordan is a little Mama's girl.
Thanks for listening,
Andrea

Congratulations on your job offer! I have been a teacher for 6 years
now, and I absolutely love it. I hope you do too.

I teach in a grade four classroom. I teach them every subject except
French. I started my career teaching grade one, but I prefer the fours.

Andrea,
I understand your feeling conflicted. I think about it constantly. There
are times I would love to work again, but I know I am not ready to give up my
time with the girls. I know they aren't ready yet either. I would sit down
and think of all the pros and cons and see if you are really ready. If not,
stay home one more year. They will start K the following year if I am not
mistaken. It sounds like you are not ready ...as if you were hoping not to get
an offer. ;)
~I am not against working mom's mind you I just think in Andrea's position it
sounds like she would prefer to stay at home.

You're absolutely right Kim. I had not planned to go back to teaching until
the girls were in 5-K, but our private insurance has gone up so much and it is
killing us financially. :( I have warmed up to the idea of going back in
August, but you're right, I would rather stay home one more year with my
"babies."
