I love the book so I was so excited when I heard the movie was coming out. I
was planning to take the girls to see it the day after Thanksgiving, but the
reviews I have read have been terrible.  Has anyone seen it?  What's the
verdict?

TIA,
Andrea

Hi :)  My computer has been - I don't even know what the word is - for quite
awhile!  I'm excited to see this post as one of the first I've "seen" in such a
long time.  We just took the girls to see it last weekend.  We loved it.  I
found it to be touching, beautiful to watch, and just a good way to start off
the holidays.

My only gripe isn't really a fair one considering this is a movie based on a
story.  As a Christian, I was really disheartened that the sole focus of this
movie is about Santa and doesn't even mention Christ...which without we have no
Christmas in the first place.  For those that aren't Christian, this of course
wouldn't be an issue at all since it is still a nice movie by which to be
entertained. ;)  Like I said, I realize this isn't a fair gripe.  It's my own
fault for not really knowing the story in the first place!  I received the book
last year and chose not to read it since the movie was coming out.  Rich and I
thought it might "spoil" it for us if the movie didn't represent people the way
we thought they should be in our heads.  Anyway, I'm rambling...basically, it
*was* a good movie IMO.

Enjoy if you go!

Hi Andrea!

It's funny you should ask about PE...I was looking forward to taking
my just turned 3 yo DD to see PE (despite the not so great reviews).
We spent about 40 minutes MAX watching the movie.  The sound and
action were too frightening for my daughter.  We had to leave and
thankfully received a full refund from the theater.
I was shocked to see that this only was listed as a "G" rated movie.
She was less afraid of "The Incredibles".

Good luck on your decision!

Interesting!  We saw "The Incredibles" the other week and I thought it was a
bit too much - body count and all.  But of course the boys liked it.  We
haven't seen Polar Express yet.  It's just going to have to wait until we see
the SpongeBob movie - which had better live up to the tv show!!

I think it depends upon the kids age.  Chris and Kathleen (very close to 10)
just loved it and both purchased the book from the Scholastic Book Fair at
school.  It was great as an adult too as it brought back many memories of
the magic that surrounds Christmas.  No offense to those who thought it
should be religious but it was a book about "Polar" i.e., Santa, not Baby
Jesus.  Both my DH and I left feeling good about the movie.  We also went to
see Sponge Bob the Movie AND the Incredibles.  Again, I really think it's
age appropriate for oars as they love THE MUMMY!  10 is a great age for
"loving to be scared to death."  Anyhow, I'd highly recommend it for older
kids - I do see how it would scare the young ones though.

Happy Thanksgiving

We just came back from seeing SpongeBob.  It was a very fun movie.
The kids (5 years old) liked it a lot, and even my wife and I got a
few good laughs out of it.  We've never seen the TV show, though, so I
can't make a comparison.
