A great story and one I wish more papers would do.

I wish our paper would do a similar story. From the photos in the linked
article, above; at least there appears to be room to get past the ignorant
parents - unlike at my son's school...

Email the editor the link and suggest he does the story - could be
worth a try.

> A great story and one I wish more papers would do.
My daughter's primary school is located right next to a huge supermarket car
park, which parents have permission to use. But there are still a whole set
of people who prefer to put everybody's safety at risk by driving right up
to the gates and dropping their children off.
The school has sent out endless letters, to no effect, and finally have got
the community police to come and patrol and warn parents at the beginning
and end of some school days.
My son's infant school has its own car park and plenty of street parking
around. But there is an emergency access gate at one end of the school.
Despite numerous requests in newsletters, parents insist on blocking this
gate. Last term there was an accident in school at the end of the school
day. An ambulance was called, and then teachers who had better things to do
had to attempt to find the owners of three vehicles blocking the emergency
gate. These same parents still park there.
It is just selfishness - one day it might be their child involved in an
accident.

And then you get the parents happy to let their infant school aged child
ride in the front seat without a seatbelt. Never mind car seats are legal
requirement, they don't even bother with the ordinary seatbelt.

Or combining the two I saw a car with about 4 bouncing kids in nearly
run the lolly pop man over.
It's seriously bad driving and perhaps the only way to deal with the
bad parkers is to give them 3 points each time they do it and then
crush the car when they get to 12.

Crushing the car seems a little extravagant-give it to someone who needs it
and won't misuse it... (I've always wondered why the police don't do that)

I spose they could auction them - that with the fines can help pay
towards staff to monitor the situation.
Giving them away? I'd not thoguht of that... :-)

That's a good idea. When I was in Oxford the police used to auction off
stolen bikes that weren't claimed within a certain length of time. It was a
cheap way of getting a bike.
