Hi all, Hope you can help. My partner has missed 2 periods now, all the home and GP pregnancy tests are negative however we have heard that as they all test for HCG it is possible to be pregnant and not test positive? Does anyone have any experience either direct or anecdotal about this? The beloved is going to the Dr's tomorrow for a blood test but I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone canshed any light? She's a Phys Ed teacher, very fit and came off the contraceptive pill about 8 months ago and has regular periods since then - she's 31 yrs old. Regards G you can't be pregnant if no hcg is found in your blood. don't know why she would be missing periods unless she is stressed, lost weight, has pcos etc. Hope it works out soon. Hm. This is misleading at best. HCG levels increase quickly in early pregnancy, and drop again after about three months gestation, but they are still substantially higher during the rest of pregnancy than they are in a non-pregnant woman. Even in the third trimester, the level is between 1,000 and 50,000 IU/L - in a non-pregnant woman the level is less than 5.0 IU/L. It never goes away when you are pregnant, unless it is too early to detect ie. less than 4 weeks pregnant. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant. I found out that I was pregnant at 13 days past ovulation with a home pregnancy test purchased at a supermarket. This isn't actually even considered "early". A lot will depend upon the sensitivity of the test being used, how much HCG it is able to detect and how far past implantation a woman's pregnancy is. Sorry but I am saying what the doctors told my cousin. She WAS 6 months preg and tests had been showing up neg for 3 months! I know hgc doesn't go away but they said a hpt will not pick up lower amounts of hcg past a certain amount of weeks. I haven't got a clue what's wrong or right, I'm just quoting from personal experience and didn't mean to upset or offend anyone. I did a hpt and after the doc confirmed it, I was only 4 weeks at the time of doing it. Well dear, I would suggest that either your cousin wasn't listening, or the Dr is a quack. HCG is ALWAYS present in a pregnant woman. ALWAYS. It does peak at a certain level but remains present until such time as the pregnancy ends. Under normal circumstances if a person's HCG levels remain so low as to be undetected then the pregnancy isn't viable. Plus I never did say that hgc levels go away in any form. She was just told that hpt (I'm guessing the ones she told the doc she was using) didn't pick up THOSE levels. hpt's do differ as you can have a neg from one brand and a positive from another.And also, my cousin isn't stupid or anything. It depends on the levels of hcg. i had missed my period took a test which result was neg. i visited my gp who said to just continue with another test in a week or so, which returned neg. i then went to hosp to have an etopic pregnancy test done apparantly they are more sensitive???which returned neg. i done more tests every week so i started thinking ok im crazy im not pregnant. then i got a positive result ...??? weird i found out i was 11 weeks pregnant. mmy hcg had not rappidly raised. later i found out my mother was 5 months before a test showed positive while carrying my brother.
