Pro-spanking "science" is replete with Cargo Cult thinking and
expressions of opinion. They just "know" that it works, while ignoring
their careful exclusionary construction in variables -- leaving out
critical components to the issue of so called "success" of spanking as

Now THIS is interesting, given the type of government I WAS familiar
with in Taiwan. I spent considerable time there in the somewhat distant
past. Apparently things are changing. Even Capital Punishment is being
reduced, with far fewer executions than before.

I saw a film that was made in 1976 and in it teachers were able to fully
hit HS kids with no consequences.  Was this Hollywood, or could teachers
actually hit kids in these days?

Baumrind, if you don't recall, was the "researcher" that presented,
orally, to an annual APA conference her conclusions that spanking
presented no problems and in fact had a positive effect on children's
behaviors. A glaring fallacy as any examination of her study
